What tranny fluid and filters do you choose?
With over a 101,000 miles on my 88 IROC, the ol' tranny seems to be shifting a bit rough these days. After she is warmed up, it seems that shifting from reverse to drive or vice versa gives a bit more of a clunk than is normal. Sometimes when I hit the gas to accelerate, it seems to take the car a second longer than it should to react to the heavier pressure on the pedal. I checked my tranny fluid when I first got the car, and it was down about a quart and the fluid is dark colored and smells a bit burnt. I added a quart and overfilled just a little bit a month or so ago. This week, I plan on having the tranny fluid completely flushed and replaced as well as the filter. I was wondering what you guys on this site think about tranny fluid and filters. What is the best brand of performance tranny fluid for a decent price (I'm on a limited budget). How about filter too, what is a good performance filter for a decent price. I'd like to hear your opinions before I go and purchase a regular old case of GM tranny fluid. Also, what is the ballpark range for a full tranny fluid flush in your experience, including the bottom pan and top reservior. Thanks guys for your input, you all know your stuff!

Any house brand Dexron III will work. I don't think any one is better over the other. They are all the same with a different name on the bottle. Don't waste your money on a synthetic with that many miles.

Any good additives that you guys can suggest that would help get her running smoother again? My father-in-law suggested adding some Lucas Transmission Fluid Treatment along with the change. It comes in a big white bottle with tapered tip. Do you think an additive is a good idea or should I just stick to the change itself?
