stuck in park

i'm purchasing an iroc with a 700r4 and a b&m rachet shifter. the owner told me that he thought the linkage was slightly off which wouldn't allow for the car to be set fully into park. now he thinks that it is broken because it won't shift out of park/into gear. any ideas? could it just be a cable or linkage or am i looking at a junk tranny? thanks in advance!

cable could be misadjusted/broken/not even hooked up ect...

Could also be the bracket down on the tranny that has broken/come loose/ or cable popped out.

I wouldnt go as far as saying the tranny is pootched, yet...

so based on the symptons you think its more likely that its a fairly easy fix

Car: projects.......
based on the symtoms, you need to take look under the car while someone is trying to shift it and see if the trans linkage moves....
