Does my tranny have a leak or am I stupid?

Transmission: T56
Axle/Gears: 9", 3.50
Does my tranny have a leak or am I stupid?
I just went to fill my newly installed t56 with fluid from the shifter hole and it leaked right out the back of the tranny where the driveshaft goes ( the driveshaft is not installed). Is there a bad seal or is this because the drive shaft isn't in?

I dont remember the fill line on the t56 but i believe its over/at the driveshaft.
So do final fill once u slide the driveshaft in
later
