CONVERTER QUESTION

I purchased a EDGE 2400 RPM lock up converter, and am very very happy with it. I knocked a chunk off my 60ft and about 4/10 of my 1/4 passes. But my question is, my car used to run at 3000rpm about 103 or so on the expressway now it only runs about 85-88 or so on flat level ground. I thought that after it locks up it should still act like the factory unit, so I replaced the lock up switch in the tranny thinking that was the problem but that didnt fix it, and its hard to tell with a cushy converter by doing the foot brake method to see if its locked up, because I dont feel it drop out when I touch the break. Has anyone elese noticed this or is it just me.....lol.

Whe locked, RPM Vs Speed should be the same no matter what converter you have. Unlocked however, higher stall converters typically require more fluid, particularly the smaller diameter ones, so the converter feed checkball should be removed for greater flow(I think that's the one, but you'll want to double check with the experts here or someone like Dana at Pro-Built transmissions). Without the extra fluid, the converter will tend to slip alot more at higher RPMs.

Yea, hes a great guy, thats where I got my kit and converter from, I am begining to think they may have shiped me the wrong one, like a non lock up. I know I got billed for a lock up, dang those are expensive. I have never run a lock up stall converter and didnt really know what to expect. That just makes me worry because I was told after about 40mph when it locks up, it should act the same and that seemed correct to me.

^^^

Like stated above.

It could be a stock stall or a 5000RPM stall, it doesnt make a difference when its locked.

have you checked the wiring for the lockup?

Yea all the circuits are good, and getting power to the lock up unit, is there a way to tell just from looking at the converter. I am about to pull the engine and replace it with my new one soon, so while I have it out is there a way to tell if maybe they sent me the wrong one?

Come on now, I know some of you are running bigger converters than me with lock ups, has someone else noticed this with there converter? I have sent Dana at Pro Built a PM but just dont have a response yet, I may just have to call Edge.

Well theirs not much we can tell ya. If the wirings good and it sends power to lockup and you have had the trans apart that pretty much leaves it to a conveter issue.

Maybe you got sent a non-lockup or maybe just a dud that wont lock

Yea I finally left a message for EDGE to give me a ring, I cant seem to get Dana to respond, I know he dose most his work late at night so we are just on different time tables especially me being on the east coast. I hope its something simple, just seems wierd to me about the lockup deal not working on a brand new unit.
