700-R4 stuck in first.

This problem is not in a third gen f-body but i am a member and know how much help is avalible on here. the trans is in an 89 1500 chevy pickup. me and a friend of mine installed a NEW 700-r4 in the truck that was formerly 5-speed. since its first couple miles the trans would not shift into second until 3,000 no matter how much load you had applied to it. all other gears were shifting normally. now the trans will not shift out of first gear. the kickdown cable (assuming this does the same thing as the TV cable?) has been adjusted prperly. again its a brand new trans, fluid in perfect condition. any thoughts? thanks for the help.

You might want to check the servo. Sometimes the o-ring gets pinched in installation and if it was not pressure tested this could happen.

Check the valve body servo pistons and springs.

Do a search for the TV valve being stuck/sticking.

Can jam u in first just like u said.

Even if u broke a TV cable the trans will shift late and hard as hell once the gov spins up.

Lots of info there.

later

yeah we were cheking all that over. the trans was still in the truck at the time. we looked over everything we could externally bvefore we pulled the trans. the tv cable was connected properly and not broken or misadjusted. so that was checked off the list. then we were looking for fluid leaks and found some seepage near the servo cover. by that time the trans had cooled down and we took it for another drive then it shifted right into all the gears? could it have been the fact that we were out getting stuck in the mud? the motor was at higher than normal rpm and not much airflow through the radiator to cool the trans fluid. trans fluid gets thinner when hot right? could it have then caused the leak and not be able to build the pressure required for the next gear change? just some thoughts. b ut as of now it is shifting normally. thanks guys for the help
