Pedal install question...sound deadner needed???

Hey everyone. I have a simple question, and I feel kind of dumb asking it. But its one of those things that Ide rather just for info on, than screw something up.

Im installing 4th gen pedals into my 87 TA. Im using the 4th gen power brake booster, so thats not an issue. Right now they are bolted in with the 4th gen gas pedal, but Im going to hack that off and use my 3rd gen one. Just fits better I think.

Anyway...My question is about the sound deadner in that area. Will it hurt anything to cut it out? Mine was alittle damp and puffed up to like .75" thick. It was not anywhere near the original position either. Looks like it slid around some. It was making it impossible to install the pedals and to get things lined up. So I took the knife to it. If all it does is deaden some of the noise, I can live with that. If it acted as a "spacer" of sorts, or if it significantly reduces rattling, then what I was thinking was taking some of my old poly end link bushings, cutting them to an 1/8" or so, and using them on all the bolts.

Anyone have any input on this??? Thanks!!

Justin

Are you doing the T-56 conversion? I just switched my pedals out for some fourth gen pedals, i left most of the material in there.

Im doing the LS1/T56/12bolt/Autometer/barely any 3rd gen left swap I probably could have left the material there...but it kept falling in my way, and it was so darn thick, that when I was bolting the pedals up, I had to really push in on them to expose enough of the booster studs to get the nuts started. I was told that its just there purely for heat and sound deadening. Im not really worried about that...there is plenty of other stuff around to deaden it. If no...Ill add more later. My main concern was if it was spacing things out at all...or if I was going to get horrible rattles and vibes from the pedal assembly being against metal. I think what Im going to do is... Slice some old poly end link bushings up..to about 1/8" thick or so. And just use them against the firewall mounts. The padding was atleast that thick when compressed, so it shouldnt hurt. We'll see. Im going to cut that darn 4th gen gas pedal off today. the 3rd gen one fits without hassle.
