9 bolt broke in half
9 bolt broke in half
I just bought a '91 5 speed with a 305. It seemed to drive real wierd bringing it home. It turns out the left axle tube is broken out of the center casting so the rear tire move front to back.
I guess I need to find a 5 speed donor car to get a 3.08 so my speedo will work etc. any comments will be helpful thanks

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
A 91 shouldn't have a 9-bolt. 89 was the last year of that rear in these cars.
10-bolts with the crappier gears like that aren't too hard to find. What you ought to do instead, is look for one out of a 6-cyl 90-92 car; it will generally be a higher ratio than a V8 car. Ideally, find one out of a 5-speed car, and snarf the speedo stuff while you're at it.
