Camaro 5 sp lighter than air?
Camaro 5 sp lighter than air?
I found an '83 5 speed from a v8 camaro at rhe wrecker. Is that the same as, or as strong as , the one in my '89? The trans is really light to pick up. The '89 does not shift very well. thanks

It'd be a non world class unit. Less strong than your current one.

Correct. It will physically interchange, so if you're in a pinch it will work, but the strenght is significantly less than a WC unit.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
If your car shifts poorly in ALL gears, it's not the fault of the transmission.
Which means, changing the transmission, won't fix it.
Stiff shifting is ALMOST ALWAYS caused by something wrong with the clutch.
I'd recommend not buying any transmissions just yet, and instead, change the clutch. Since it only takes about 2 hours tops to swap the trans out, and even if you were changing the trans it'd make sense to replace the clutch at that time anyway, I'd suggest just doing a clutch to it and see where that takes you; and then after that, if it's still not right, start back up worrying about the trans.
Don't forget to change out the pilot bushing while doing the clutch.
