Trans leaking..bad?
I recently put a new engine in my camaro, it has a 700r4, before I put the engine in, it had no leaks.
Now when it runs I am getting a very steady leak coming from the passenger side front corner of the trans pan.
Thats where its driping from, I dont really know its origins.
I think its the filler tube, it seems loose and im afraid im leaking fluid through the base of it.
Also, the trans dip stick says its above full. way above full, maybe a half inch above the top line.
I have practically no experience working on a transmission, the only thing ive done so far to it was change the kickdown cable, and I can tell its not leaking from there.

I'm not the best with transnissions either. I only do the basics, bolt it on and hook it up. I never get inside the tranny. If it were me I'd drop the pan and change the fluid and gasket. if it's leaking bad and you think it may be from the dipstick, clean up around it and run the car while watching for a drip...

Never took the tube out while swapping engines.
I was under the car hooking the exhaust up when I noticed that the dipstick tube wasnt pushed in all the way, so I got out from underneath my car and pushed down on it hard, I think that its just leaking from there.
Would having too much transmission fluid cause a leak? Because right now im 110% sure that its above full.

you check the fluid level when the engine is running, run it for a min then check, i was a bit confussed myself when i checked i noticed there was loads in when it wasent runnin but checked the maual and it says check when runnin and my was ok when i had the engine on
one more thing when i removed my engine and tranny i noticed a breather type pipe just above the stick tube which when theres to much fluid in it comes out thier i think you have the same tranny as mine so it might be coming from there and that mean to much fluid.
also to much or to little fluid can damge your tranny just to let you know from my pass cars
Hope this helps

Yeah the car was running when I checked the fluid.
Now its even lower, I took a few passes around my block.
The fluid now is at the very bottom of the marks, now im starting to get worried.

could it be a blown hydralic valve? A friend of mine says thats what it is.
waax 2: leaking tranny fluid now
waax 2: coming out of the filller tube
Ace143wr2: hahahahahahahahahaha
Ace143wr2: backflow from overpressure
Ace143wr2: yep
Ace143wr2: welcome to a blown hydraulic valve
waax 2: but how
Ace143wr2: "do not ask me car advice questions"
Ace143wr2: ask your boss
waax 2: youre so ****ing ****
Ace143wr2: hey, you only believe me when I tell you something you 'want to hear' not need to hear
Ace143wr2: I could tell you the truth and you wouldnt believe me, then someone else tells you something you 'wanted' to hear, and you believe them instead.
waax 2: okay so whats the truth about my trans
Ace143wr2: ask youre boss.
waax 2: bad kickdown adjustment?
Ace143wr2: nope.
Ace143wr2: you wont have a tranny long though, so make it quick.

the car should always be running when you check tranny fluid. if its not it will appear to be too full...was it running the first time you checked?

It's leaking from somewhere. It is probably the gasket, or something simple. BTW, my trans fluid is WAYYYYYYY above full... but I asked my transmission guy (who rebuilt my trans ... 700r4 same as yours) and he said don't touch it!!! It is fine where it is. I was like "aight" and he was like "check it monthly, but do not add. If it gets below full, let me know and i'll check it out." so... They put it above full and she runs fine.

P.S. Try the simple stuff before you screw it up. Change the gasket and oil, and go from there. Don't drive w/o oil... take the time and the extra ... $20? or whatever it is to change the oil, and buy a new gasket instead of risking $500 in parts, and $600 in labor.

Does autozone/murreys keep 700r4 dipstick tubes in stock? It would be awesome if it was just the dipstick tube that was leaking.
could it also possibly be a blown hydraulic valve like my friend mentioned? or is that out of the question.

did you ever find the solution to your leak. i'm having a similiar problem. after i changed my head gaskets i noticed i was leaking trans fluid. i changed the pan gasket/fluid/filter. and the leak is still there. could i have just bumped the dipstick tube or something?
