ever feel cursed? I do, rear end question.

I just completed installing a 10 bolt in place of the worn out 9 bolt. The gears looked good and recently new as stated prior to purchase. I just took the car for the test drive and, imagine it, there is a whine in the rear end. Nothing under power, may have heard something under slow acceleration but in coast the wine is at first not there then builds slowly for about 5-10 seconds and then is clearly audible.

Anyone have insight as to what/bearing it is? I do know there is a leak on the pinion seal, discovered while on jack stands doing the associated brake upgrade.

since it has new gears i have 2 guesses, either the gears are set up wrong or the bearings were installed dry and one or more failed. the leaking seal would tend to confirm it was installed dry and the bearings as well.

Its gotta be gears, a typical worn out gear set will howl on decel.

But like stated above, if their new and werent lashed properly they can/will howl.

Gears look good with no visible signs of wear. I will take it someplace and have it diagnosed and repaired...I already used all of my rearend knowledge and skills to make the swap.

It got even better after driving at speed. The Camaro vibration was not there until I replaced the rearend, now it is there at 65ish just as it was in my last one. After I get the pinion seal replaced and the gear set up checked it will be time to replace the axles.
