nuetral saftey switch problem...common???

on my 82 Firebird that has a 4 speed manual tranny I had a prob come up yesterday. through the switch is a plastic rod that has a nub on the end of it at a 90 degree angle, that nub goes into the clutch pedal arm. well this nub came out of the clutch pedal arm which basically leaves the car unable to be started. there was now way to perm mount this nub to keep it in place.every time I would push onb the clutch pedal the nub would come out of the pedal arm.why I never had this problem until now is beyond me. Mnformula350 and I were both baffled. well I made a differant assembly that will not come out again. I used long hardened bolts and lock nuts to make sure nothing will work its way loose or come apart. anyone else ever have this problem on a manual car????? below is the pic of the switch that I had to modify.
