where is a good place to get the suspension brackets for a ford 9 inch conversion? how much do they normally run?

Cut them off a donor 10 bolt. Measure at least 3 times and weld onto 9" housing once.

You still need to find some way to attach the torque arm if you plan on using a factory type suspension. Moving over the spring, shock, panhard bar, LCA mounts is the easy part.

 

any one make a 4 link kit sans the toruqe arm? i wanna try to get rid of it.

out of curiosity, what makes the TA mount harder then the other mounts?

 

it mounts to the housing instead of the axle tubes. Axle tubes are mild steel, housings are cast. Cast is tricky to weld properly.

- You can't 4-link without back-halfing the car and loosing you're rear seat. - Why would you want to loose the tq arm when it works so well when done properly? The factory "4-link" cars(rustangs, etc..) take 3x(from my experiences) the work to get to the 60fts a tq arm car can and they're less consistent. Aftermarket 4-link set-ups are great, bt now you're talking a full-on race suspension and no rear seat, plus major modifications.

 

on a 10bolt, 9bolt and aftermarket 12bolt, they cast the torque arm mount into the housing.

on a 9", you cant put it on the housing, since the 3rd member drops out... well i suppose you COULD but most wouldnt want to.
because of that, you need to make a bracket thats close to the 9" centersection, removable, and very strong.

 

 

Back from the dead. Does anybody make a kit that you can buy to weld on to a donor rear end housing? I mean, QP has to be getting them or making them somewhere.

For $650 you can have the complete housing with ends welded on from Moser. Yeah...I can see why a lot of people just order it instead of doing it themselves.

 

autoweldchassis.com has the best ford 9 set-up I have ever seen. It's what I put under my IROC. There torque arm and crossmember set-up is better than anything I have seen.

 

The best? Maybe. It's an American obsession. But a few of us can be perfectly happy with "good enough". In fact, that's the new name of my '84.

The top picture on Midwestchassis.coms site is almost identicle to the set-up I bought from autoweld. To be honest I had never heard of midwest but there stuff is top shelf. I like the torque arm mounts that mount to the very top and bottom of the rear end housing. They supply a custom crossmember also that is very strong and adjustable like autoweld. I wonder just how many of these shops are out there. If any of you guys are going to build a ford 9 do a search for used nascar parts and you will find some awesome deals on top parts used by Hendrick, Childress and other race teams. I ended up with a detroit locker, 375 polished gears and a 1350 yoke with the pulley on it for the rear end cooler from Jeff Gordons car. That was in 2002 I think when there was just two teams at Hendrick. I have found stuff from Hendrick, rousch, Childress, Earnhardt and Gibbs at great prices.
