how to install new gears
I just got some 3.73s and Im trying to figure out how to install them. Will this be easy to do on my own and what else to i need like grease and what not for the installation. And if you know of any sites that have instructions...that would be great too. Thank you, -Austin
after you get the old parts out and things cleaned
set pinion depth (i'd go with a solid spacer)
install new bearings/races
install pinion
set pinion preload
install carrier
check/adjust backlash
check contact pattern
it's fairly easy to do but lot of people are scared to try or don't want to invest in all the tools needed for it. sort of goes without saying you'd need new oil. posi additive if you need it. i'd buy the solid spacer and an install kit.

a dial indicator and magnetic base are needed to check runout/backlash I think. Not super pricey, and you'll find other uses for this down the road.
solid pinion spacer is ratech p/n 4111. You can get an install kit from ratech too.

randy's r&p has good de-structions(instructions) - Yukon gears come with a nice booklet on installation.
- spacers/shims to fit your diff
- all torque specs for your specific diff
- dial bore gauge with magnetic base
- gear marking compound(like grease, less sticky for easier "read")
- loctite for ring gear bolts
- gear lube(posi additive if needed)
