reverse clutch assy help
Ok to start off my second gear was gone completly so I bought a new wide band and a new reverse input drum a freind and I droped the tranny (700r4) took apart and replaced the band and drum my freind swaped the reverse clutches and piston assy from one drum to the other put it back together and I had no reverse I could hardly push the car while in neutral and engine running then shut off engine pushed easy car goes foward fine in all gears so its back out and I noticed there is not a steele plate between the wavy plate and first friction plate is this correct?

they are set up like that from the factory.
check the parts you changed. was there proper clearance for the band? check the sealing rings on the pump. if you cut one of those putting the pump in, it will cause problems with reverse. check hte seal on the reverse input piston, it could have been damaged when changing drums. also, check the seals on the input shaft/drum.

Thats why I took it back apart was to check all the seals to see if any were torn or anything but they all seem fine but the book says to check the clearance between the upper retainer ring and the backing plate by pushing down gently then measuring .045'' - .070'' clearance I have this much without pushing down on the backing plate??
