BW 9 bolt- GM additive?
Can someone confirm thet the Borg-Warner limited slip rear axle is the cone type limmited slip unit, and not a disc type unit?
I understand that only the clutch type limited slip axle needs the GM aditive, and the cone type doesn't?
Thanks from the Netherlands!

Yes it is the cone type. As far as additives, that info can be found in this link. I think I dropped this link in another one of your threads as well. It's long, but just look through it, it has a huge amount of tech and service information. The 9-bolt in this link is refferred to as the Borg Warner "Model 78." There is a section on additives.http://fsunw3.ferris.edu/~millerm/SWB_a3_m06_Final.pdf

I just looked through the additive section on that link (page 224 for limited slip) and for the 9-bolt we need "80w-90 MODIFIED GL-5" (GM part# 1050010). NO ADDITIVE. You were correct about the clutch plate getting additive and the cone not getting it.

Ok, thanks.
It's all very confusing.
I've driven my car ( with BW 9 bolt posi) for more than 12 years now, and I've used the GM mineral axle oil with the GM additive, as I was told to do so by my Dutch GM dealer.
Recently I changed to synthetic Castrol axle oil, and the Dutch castrol importer told me not to use any aditive.
On this site i have read that a cone type posi doesn't need any aditives at all, the link Iroc gave states to use GM aditive only when using mineral axle oil...????
At Red Line Oil you can read that a small amount of aditive is required, even Redline is synthetic....???
At he end I drove a few hundred miles with the Synthetic castrol without aditive, but didn't feel good about it, so I added a bottle as well....!!
