Old T-5's
I was wondering how one can expect an old T-5 into the 100,120k mile range to hold up. How can you check(other than a test drive) the condition of a T-5?
Not to be an ***, I know that there are alot of poeple that have T-5's that have held up to a million miles, I'm just looking for some real world opinions on the level of abuse they can take over time.

I had my T-5 in my 87 for 116k worth of road course and a little drag racing.........so I took it to a tranny shop befroe I put the LT-1 in it.....the guy took it all apart and found nothing worn, so he put it back together with new seals........I don't know if this is typical or not........but it still shifts great....

The question is heavily loaded. It depends entirely on how the trans was treated. A properly treated trans can go 200,000 + miles without needing a rebuild as long as the fluid is changed regularly. A trans that is run hard may only last 50,000, or even less if the guy shifting it is a ham fist.
In general, if it doesn't make any noises and shifts smoothyl then it's probably fine. If it makes noise or shifts with grinding or rough engagement or pops out of gear it's rebuild time.
