i recently bought a 1990 IROC and i was wondering if there was a problem with my transmission because i took it out on the drag strip last night and my times were terrible because i would take off faser than most cars but when i got to about 75 mph my tranny wouldnt shift and the tac would just redline until i let my foot off the gas a bit then it would start accellerating slowly.. any ideas?

my best time was 15.6s at 75mph (terrible!!)

That does sound like a problem. Start with adjusting the tv cable.

 

- the shift is an issue - as for the good launch, then nothing, welcome to a stock TPI....

 

i adjusted it this morning and no more shift problems
