NEED HELP FAST, please read

Ok, on my way to my girlfriends house today, I stopped to get more gas in my Camaro, 1989 Camaro RS V6 with 700-R4 transmission. When I went to start the car, I did not have problems starting, but my girlfriend was in the parking lot and when I went to shift it up to park it did not feel right.

WELL long story short in trying to shift the transmission UP gears, I shifted it down and is now stuck 30 miles away from my girlfriends house in FIRST GEAR.

IE:

Park
Reverse
Neutral
D with Overdrive
D
2
1 <-- Its suck here

NOW I have not had any difficultly shifting down, but it will not shift up. I am HOPING that someone has had a similar experience and its a quick fix. PLEASE let me know I have to figure this out by Saterday the church does not want it there on Sunday.

Thanks

Shifter cable maybe? I have seen many of them break at the actual shifter assy. or if the engine is not grounded to the body then the cable will acutally fuse itself together.
