Has Anyone Converted a Mustang WC T5 to Chevy Use?

I have a couple of Mustang T5 world class transmissions (one of which is a #126 from '85) that I would like to convert to use with a mid seventies Chevy 350 small block. I am interested in whether anyone has performed such a conversion and can give me some help on getting the right components.

I know I will need to use a 26 spline Chevy input shaft and possibly a tail shaft conversion including an S-10 tail shaft for strength and shifter location.

I will also use a steel Chevy input housing.

The Mustang T5 has a 3:35 first gear and I am not sure if the Chevy equivalent units do also. So any advice on component selection is appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You will spend more converting stuff that way, than you would to just buy the right transmission.

There is nothing about the Mustang T-5 that's "better" (or worse) than a GM one. They have the same spacing between the shafts and therefore the same size gears; the same diameter shafts, except for where they're different to fit Ford- or GM-specific external parts like clutches and yokes; the same thickness of case; and so on.

The only GM transmissions that have crappy wide ratios like that are the 6-cylinder ones. The GM V8 T-5s got the MUCH BETTER 2.95 1st gear. Still not as good as even the lowest grade of the old 4-speeds, which had ratios of around 2.65:1, much less the REAL high-perf 4-speeds, that had 1st gear ratios as low as 2.21. But still, better than the Mustang ratio.

The S-10 mainshaft will work in one of these cars, but the extension housing will not. It lacks the torque arm mount, is not "rotated" to bolt up to the bell housing that fit these cars, and locates the shifter about 6" too far forward.

I think (I'm not sure) that you can take the Ford one, replace the input shaft and change the rear output housing, but I'm not sure too if the output splined shaft will be the same as a chevy one ...!!!

The input shaft cost about 100$US and a new seal and bearing about 40$US, then, you will have to readjuste the input shaft bearing preload

So, ...Check for the output shaft, if it's the same, it' 150$ in part job
