700r4 advice (new car)
Hi, I've been having problems with my 700r4 a day after I bought it.
Its a 92 TA convertible and it has a new motor etc...
It pains me to have this problem (now that I've spent all of my money on the car). SO please help me out, just advice nothing more (although anything you have to say would be appreciated).
Ok, here we go.
When I first start the car up in the morning, I can hear a knock/tick coming from the tranny. Listened with the stethoscope and its coming from right underneath the Flexplate/converter! I listenend to my friends car, at the same place (the plastic protector over tc and flexplate) and his car was smoooth. Mine sounded like Tic tic tic tic (in a rather fast tempo). I've replaced a cracked flexplate before, so it might be an easy fix. However, just from looking at the flexplate with the flashlight, I did not see a slight hint of crack. (no pun intended)
My second problem.
The TV cable wouldn't adjust itself, so I did press in the holding tab just a tiny wee bit, enough to spring it back. With this I've noticed that the original position of the TV cable was 1/4 inch further in then after I adjusted it. This really lead me to belive
A. I did not set it right.
B. It wasn't set right, and the tranny is done!
Now, my first to second shift is a granny shift. It doesn't feel like its slipping, its just sloppy. It will disengage first, then it feels like it goes to second very easily that I can barely notice.
The second to third shift is a bitch. At normal throttle the shift would be fine, if I gun it anyway past half throttle the second would disengage, it would revv maybe 100-150 rpm's then shift to third. Its fraction of a second that it happens, but its annoying. Is this slipping?? I keep hearing that when tranny slips the rpms shoot waaaay up then it catches?!?!
Let me know what you think this could be???
I hope its the flywheel and TV cable, but I am ready to swap trannies too.
Just trying to save money, so I think I might slip in some anti-slip fluid untill I have moolah to get a decent 700R4
Any advice would be appreciate.
P.S. The previous owner had a re-built TC installed, with 2-4 bands and some kind of kit put in it. THey called it a tranny service, as it was taken out and all. So, this might hint to something I don't know about.

Thats probably the noise I am hearing when I first start it up in the morning. I decided to replace the TC. Off to my buddy from the club to see if he still has that higher stall TC.
I'll keep you updated!

For the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts I would upgrade the servo. Not knowing what servo is in there now, can't say which one to get. I'd bet though that it is a standard lo-performance servo, and the famous 'Corvette' (093) servo will be an upgrade. Resist the urge to go with the huge 'billet' servos.
Let's see, where are my notes. . .
OK, found them. If the servo is a 554 (numbers are cast into the part) it is the smallest and the worst to have. The 553 is the regular V8 servo, with the 093 used in the high performance cars (such as the 'Vette). So if you find a 554 or 553 installed, upgrade to the 093.
If the 093 is already in the trans then there is another issue. Could be a line pressure problem or leakage of the check ball capsule.

Can you change servos with the tranny in the car ???
I just dont wanna take it out unless I have to!
Its sucks, I just wanted to keep this car stock and enjoy it, and can't even do that.
Oh, well, I guess I have to start modding now!

The servo can be changed with the trans in place. Drop the crossmember and lower the rear of the tranny. There will then be enough room to change out the servo.
There is a write up with pic's on a site. I can't recall it off-hand, a SE Florida 4th gen site? If you can find it, it is worthwhile to check it out.
