help with clutch chatter
Hello everyone. I'm getting incredibly close to complete my 87 sc project and post pics...I'm having trouble with the clutch chattering as I engage it.
The funny thing is, it does not happen when the engine is cold...it works perfect.
But after the engine warms up, after driving a while, I get terrible chatter...especially when slipping the clutch for a hard launch (it can be embarrasing
I replaced the clutch about a month ago. After the install, I had an oil leak from the pressure sending unit, which I suspect leaked into the clutch, which may be the problem. I've tried to clean it out with brake cleaner, but as you know, it's hard to reach get in there without dropping the tranny.
Has anyone else had this experience? Will it go away in time or is there a way I can fix it wothout pulling the transmission out again?
Hope someone can tell me what to do...
Thanks!
Bj

It does it when warm/hot only makes me highly suspect your assumption on oil getting on it is indeed correct.
Higher temps will make embedded oil come back out of the clutch material.
U might end up having to pull it out and investigate.
Worst case scenario is having your clutch rebuilt/replaced.
Your also positive all clutch linkage/hydraulics is set up factory and working properly?

Jeremy,
Sadly, your scenario sounds highly probable according to the symptoms my car exhibits.
My manual says that to correct this problem, fix the oil leak, which has given me a faint hope that the oil may eventually burn off, leaving me with a properly working clutch without dissasembly...
It is a hydraulic clutch , and the linkage is set up properly.
Thanks for your input! I'm still open to suggestions...
