hello iam new here and from europe i have a 87 chevy bougth nothing is original came from factory whit 6 cilinder now 383 stroker and the tranny is a 5 speed gearbox in 87 wasnt a option or special order or something ? who knows greetz from the netherlands

 

5-speed was the only manual transmission available in these cars from 83 on; except for a few 4-cylinder cars that got 4-speeds in 83 and 84.

A 6-cylinder T-5 is different from a V8 one. You'll definitely want to get the right one; or upgrade to a T-56.
