Trans Brake
1st off, it's not(atleast currently) available for a 700r4. Parts wise, at minimum you're talking a manual valvebody with the brake, some trans require tear-down and internals changed/reworked to allow operation.
A trans brake takes half the fluid from 1st gear and dumps it into reverse, thus holding the car stationary. It will then allow you to bring the motor up to the stall rpm of the converter before loading the motor/launching the car.

It's a bit more involved than swapping the valve body. The tranny needs to be disassembled for some modifications. A small hole needs to be drilled in the forward clutch hub and depending on the brand, other internal modifications may also be required.
I would never recommend one for a 700R4. Putting one in a TH350 is expensive. A TH400 can take a lot of abuse even in stock form. Having a transbrake in a Powerglide only needs a few internal parts beefed up but the total intallation is still cheaper than putting one in any of the other trannies.
You only need a transbrake in a strip only car. If it's street only or street/strip, a good shift kit in the tranny will really help. So will a higher stall converter depending on what changes have been done to the engine.

thanks for showing me that Apeiron - didn't know anyone had done it yet.
- as Stephen said though, a 700r would be like a t350, requiring further modification since revs uses low gear, thus simply putting half the fluid either direction would just be putting the car in reverse. - I didn't read fully into the destructions, but that has been the issue with developing a 700r4 t-brake. - I also agree that it would be difficult to build a 700r to handle a brake.
