what gears come in an 87 trans am. with the 4bbl 305

do you mean "have in it now" or left the factory 20 years ago?

it's any ones guess as to what it has, 2:73 would be a good guess as to what it left the line with.

My 87 TA came stock with the LG-4 305 and a 2:73 open rear it couldn't even chirp the tire from a standing start.

I swapped to a 3:73 posi and the difference was night and day (2 tire patches through 2 gears on a standing start with the stock LG-4). However for the stock LG-4 the 3:73's were too much gear in my opinion. 3:23's would have been nice. But I had a 355 waiting to drop in and was not concerned with the way the stock 305 worked with the 3:73's.
