700R4 Stall Converter

I just got a 700r4 rebuilt setup for non-lock. The first converter would not stall, the engine would die... So I sent it back and got a new one, I got the trans in this morning and the same thing happened, put it in gear and the motor died.... The trans place did not put the transgo valve in the front pump, he added a piece of metal to keep the valve from moving, do you all think this is my problem.... Does it not have enough oil flow, and is keeping the converter from stalling......I have plenty of torque, 511 big block chevy, trans 700r4 with a 3000 stall and a 3.89:1 rearend ratio....Please Help.... trans is coming out the third time I hope it is a charm...... Ray
