Just got this car a few weeks ago. And I am finding out some issues with it.
1. No thermostat in the engine. (probably for 20K+ miles now, since rebuild) How does that effect the tranny?
2. No torque convertor cover. Is this mandatory......obviously not, but is this something I SHOULD DEFINATLY GET. Would this keep me from being able to drag race at the strip? (Just curious, not sure if anyone would know that )
3. I have a very small leak of tranny fluid coming from were the speedo cable enters the tranny. Not the cable itself but the piece it goes into. Looks like probably just a gasket. How hard is this to change? Nothing behind there that is going to give me greif?
4. Tranny shifts at about 4100 to 4200 RPMs when at WOT. Is that pretty normal? When I smash it at 55mph, the tranny doesn't downshift?? TV cable need adjusting. Car drives fine and tranny shift nice, I would hate to fool with this and just cause problems down the road. Should I just leave it alone?
5. Is there something in the tranny they could have changed that would cause my speedo to be off? Tires are right size and rear end is stock yet. At 60 mph the car is at like 1800RPMs on the factory tach and I am getting passed right and left. Have to go 65 at least to keep people off my back.
Thanks, Nick.

The tranny cooler is located in the radiator and since the coolant temp. is directly related to the transmission fluid temp. it throws the system out of wack. Without a thermostat, the tranny could be running too hot, replace the thermostat with a 180 and you should be fine.

You are missing the dust shield, this keeps dirt from getting in to the transmission's front seal, get a new one or a bone yard special, it's only four bolts.

It is an O-ring seal, and a very easy fix.

There is an adjustment by the throttle linkage.

Someone has R&Red that tranny, it has the wrong speedo gear, any good tranny shop can get the right one, another easy fix.

Thanks for the reply.

The engine runs very cold......like right around the first hash mark on the gauge. Shouldn't the tranny be running pretty cool too then. I am putting a thermostat in it(180*), but I was just going to wait until spring. As I don't drive it much right now.
What do you mean by R&Red?

-TIA, Nick.
