I had a 2.77 9-bolt once, now it is sitting empty in my garage. The problem is you have a 2-series carrier and I believe the best you can get into it would be 3.08. You'd need a 3-series carrier for gears numerically higher than 3.08. I said eff it and went with a 10-bolt.

You can try Richmond Gear, Jeg's, Summit, or do a google search for 9-bolt gears and click away.

There's a post around here somewhere entitled "Everything I Know About 9-bolts" that may help you in your decision. I couldn't find it only due to lack of time.

Buena Suerte....
Eric

yes, you have a 2-series carrier. You'll have to locate a complete carrier as well as a gear, meaning more time and money than it's probably worth.

There are few sources to get any of the parts from. Do a search, there are several threads on here.

Could he not just replace the posi? Doing that would also get him the 3 series carrier he needs for the shorter gears, no?

If it was that easy I'm going to shoot my mechanic. He & I went thru hell AND high water and ended up having to go with the 10-bolt. I can't remember the specifc reason, but the 3-series carrier just wasn't available or the housing was too small or someshyte. I wanna know the answer to that too........

Unless I misunderstood, the posi/diff IS the carrier....?

I think Randy's ring and pinion may carry 9 bolt stuff. Also Diffsolutions.com if he is still around.

yep, and reider can usually get the 3.70 gear and sometimes the instal kit.

Could he not just replace the posi? Doing that would also get him the 3 series carrier he needs for the shorter gears, no?

yes, and yes, now try finding a complete carrier for a 9-bolt. Parts for a 9-bolt are practically non-existent.
