Difference between LT1 rear end and a LS1 rear end
Hey, I just purchased a rearend off of ebay. In the ad it said it came out of a 2001 SS camaro. Now when i got it home, I talked to a friend of mine and he said that it might be a lt1 rearend. beacuse of the wiring thats on it. Now I've search the internet for awhile now and im getting mixed answers.
The rear end I have has a plug going into the diff. My buddy said that its an lt1 rearend because of the plug. and the ls1 had 2 plugs that went to either side of the rearend.
What is a sure way I can verify what this rearend is.

The calipers on the LT1 should look pretty much like the ones in the following link:

Check this link for what the calipers on an LS1 look like (about halfway down):

A search on this site is always a good thing.

LT1 and LS1 had either one plug in the pumpkin or one plug on each axle, depended on if the car had Traction control or not. Trac Cars had plugs on each axle in the backing plate. non-Trac cars had one plug in the top of the rear end.
It doesn't really matter what rear you have as they are pretty much the same, only main difference is that the axles on LS1 rears have smaller hubs on teh axle ends (the hub portion that the rotor slips over).
A 98+ wheel won't go on an LT1 rear axle without grinding the axle or the wheel.
