how do i know what year trans i have? i have an 89 camaro rs convertable that had a 305 tbi and 700r4 trans. it now has a carb'd 350 and a th350 trans, but i dont know what year it is. they make two different shif kits for it, before and after 1981. are there any markings anywhere that will tell me what year it came out of?

If I remember right, the i.d. #'s are usually stamped on the passenger side of the trans just above the fluid pan somewhere. If you can locate these numbers and find the info to decipher them, you should be able to figure out what year the trans is. I would imagine most decent tranny shops could tell you what application the trans was originally for if you provide them with the numbers.

i got under it and i cant see anything. there is only a couple of inches between the trans and the tunnel. are there any other ways?
