You need a flywheel for a 2 peice rear main seal. The one for the 85 should have worked. Maybe someone put a later model engine in the 85.

I dont know what size you need, but if both the 85 and 87 flywheels are 2.5" then they're not 85 and 87, they are the same.

Is the crank flange absolutely round, or is it sort of funky shaped and irregular?
If it's perfectly round, you need a 86-up flywheel.
If it's the irregular shape, you need a 83-85 flywheel.
If you have 2 flywheels and one is "supposed to" be a 87 and the other is "supposed to" be for a 85, and they're the same, then whoever was doing the "supposing", wasn't doing it hard enough. The correct flywheels for those 2 applications are different.
Sounds to me like you have 2 83-85 ones, not a 85 and a 87.
You need one of the 2 flywheels that's available for 86-up V8/T-5 Camaro/Firebird. You will find that there are 2; one that was used on the high-perf motors (L69 and LB9), and one that was used on the grocery-cart motors (LG4 and L03). The difference is the weight: about 16 lbs vs about 22 lbs. You'll probably do better with the lighter one.
Don't forget to put a pilot bushing or bearing inthe crank. Your transmission WILL be destroyed if you don't, and quickly.
