t5 swap to 700r4
ok a friend of mine has a 91 rs with a 305 tbi currently the car has a t5 that is probly gonna go soon. he wants to swap to a 700r4 like mine and many others have. someone told him that he can't because he doesnt have the computer to run it. i know in mine i have a connector going to the tranny. does anyone know what this is and do i need or have to have it and what would it do if he put a 700r4 in his rs with out any of these connections. any help would be appreciated thanks, justin

Im no tranny expert by any means, but I'll give it a shot.
Going from a T-5 to 700r4 is a PITA. Those connectors that go to the tranny is for the TCC lockup, without it you get no overdrive. Being that it is a 91, the VCC sensor is also located on the tail of the tranny, you will have to get another sensor to fit the 700r4 tail. Which means you will have to change those gears that they use while your at it. Then it comes down to the computer controlled TCC lockup. You got 2 options, put it on a switch and dont forget to kick it off when you come to a stop, or wire it in correctly with a computer that can control it. So you need another PROM either one out of another 305tbi with a 700r4, or go burn one yourself, your pick. Those connectors for the lockup converter also go to the underside of your dash on the driver side. There is a connector that will be hanging there, 2 wires and clear with clips on the side. It sends the ECM the information to possibly disengage the lockup. Then there is the fun part: removing the pedals and clutch master/slave assembly. Good luck.
Like I said, PITA. Already done it once and dont want to do it again.
