4th gen rear strength
ive come across i forth gen rear from a 94 camaro. it is a 10 bolt, has 3.73 gears and disc brakes, guy says it will include everything (ebrake cables as well) 2 questions
Whats a good price to pay
how much HP/Torque will the axle hold before it snaps, i will be upgrading my motor when the body is finished (383) or super 350

Those usually go for about $250-300. Depending on how well those gears are set up, it might be worth a little more. Not much though.
They are EXACTLY THE SAME strength as the 90-up ones in these cars. No improvement whatsoever. A 94 will be a little better than a 88-back, because the axles are the 90-up size; but the gears are still identical.
In other words, not a cost-effective upgrade, if you're looking for merely power-handling.

hmm
you must be the axle/gears guru i think ill just pm you next time i have a question
so as for my swap i think it will be a plus because the new axle has new brakes and i have 83 disc which dont work well. so for the axle with brakes and new richmond gears he says less than 200 miles $400 might not be a bad deal. Is there a number you could put to it. like 350hp would break stuff or somewhere around there. i posted the pic of the light weight auburn unit couple days ago. would you says go for it? plus i get an extra 3 inch on the wheelbase for stability

ive broken 10bolts with a near stock TBI 305... so im going to say the max power in a drag style app is somewhere in the 150hp range.
$200 to $250 is a good price for the axle with the brakes and EVERYTHING on it....
$400 is way too much.
the only upgrades you're getting from this are:
the posi (if you dont have one)
the gears (that cost ~200 with install kit new)
the brakes (better PBR discs)
and possibly the 4thgen rear offset... if you want to run 4thgen rims.
if thats worth $200 to you, then get it... but 400 is too much.

Stock 275hp Lt1's break rears when you put slicks on them. I have a 94 Formula rearend in my car and broke the pinion on cheap street tires. Wheel hop breaks rears too. They do tend to last longer behind an automatic without slicks.

If it has Richmond gears in it, I would not buy it, at any price; not even for free. It'll cost $300 to fix that if you're planning on driving it on the street.
There's a reason it's for sale.... and it's not because the current owner loves it to death.
The LS1 rear brake system is better (different parking brake system). If you're going to buy a 4th gen rear, go for a 98-up.
Personally I think the "skateboard" look of the tires sticking out super far, looks UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. When I see a car like that, I laugh. Few things scream POSEUR louder than little skinny wheels and tires such as came on those old Z28s, stuck out in the air like that.
On the other hand, if you're interested in putting C5 or 4th gen wheels on your car, the 4th gen rear is PERFECT. Then, all you need is spacers on the front to match, and you can have some SERIOUS meat under your car. I have C5 wheels on mine (3rd gen rear though, so I have spacers on all 4). They COMPLETELY fill up the rear wheel wells: they're within ¼" of hitting on the inside, and they're just barely up under the lip on the outside.
