700r4 question Part ID

Hello all,
What is the part, that is located on the passangers side of transmission, its round and held in with a big "c" clip. That is the best I can describe this part.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Brad

That would be the 2/4 band servo. Also acts as the 3rd accumulator. And is the location of the infamous 'Corvette servo.'

It is a common problem for that area where the clip goes to break?? I was driving on the highway yesterday and I looked behind me and saw lots of white smoke, when I looked at the tranny the servo was still there but part of the case was missing...

Any more comments?

heres the kicker, I just picked the car from tranny shop, it was in shop for 3 weeks, mainly waiting on custom torque converter, I only drove if for about 40 miles, when a honda came up on me, so I punched it, kicked his ***, and then all I saw was white smoke in the rear view mirror. The shop is going to replace the case for free, should have it back in two days, and he told me that its a common problem, becasue of the cast al.

I have seen the steel ring react with the aluminum and corrode it. I have never seen the case break though.

Here in the states the governor is on the drivers side of the transmission.

the governor is on the driver's side, in the back of the trans, and is not held on by a wire c-clip.
