700r4 broke, what to put in?

I need a trans, I have had to 2 700r4s go bad (2 cars) and don't want to worry about it any more. I am thinking 4l60e. t-5s seem to tear up easily (they only put them in the 305s) t-56s are too expensive (i think but haven't priced a used one)

What exactaly is needed in a swap in to a 91z28 with a 305tpi but soon to be a 350tpi

Is it easy
The 4l60e should be strong enough for about 400hp

Does anyone know the going rate for a used one?

Are there any years or models (of vehicals installed) to avoid/look for

I want to make this easy and cheap?

get a 4l60e or a 4l80 (out of a truck)... my brother has a 405 motor that puts out over 550 horse and he uses the 4l80 from a truck... fast and shifts HARD

first off, a 700r4 is a 4L60, meaning a 4L60E is just the newer electronic controled version. - A 4L80E is a strong trans, but also requires an expensive control computer, it requires modification to the floor/trans tunnel to fit it under our cars, and it's heavy. It would also require a remote mounted torque arm, as there has never been an adapter to bolt the tq arm to the tailshaft of it.

A 700R4 can be built to handle 750hp with a warranty, so why change? I've got a 700r behind a big block that's cutting 1.4X 60ft's in a fully built pro-street type pickup, that gets driven to and from the track and back and forth to work several times week.

There are a lot more things you can do to a 700R4 than a shift kit. Check my sig to see what I mean. Also you can change almost every other part with stronger units to make your 700R4 a bulletproof tranny. A transmission external oil cooler is also a must.
