ticking sound in first gear?

ticking sound in first gear?
hey, i have an 85 z28, i just noticed a ticking sound that seems to be tied to my automatic trans. in first gear.
when accelerating, the ticking speeds up as well, until the automatic shifts into second, then all is well.
when slowing down, the ticking comes back when shifted into first, and gradually slows down until i come to a stop.
no ticking in reverse, n, or park.
also, when i use manual, first and second, the ticking happens.
any ideas on what could be happening?
