Speedometer cable gear
Speedometer cable gear
Hi everyone! This is a problem my friend is having right now with his 84 camaro, so Im going to post his problem now. He was trying to remove the speedometer cable from the transmission and when he pulled it out, the gear on the cable came out and fell inside the hole. Now he cant get it out. He said the only way he thinks he can get it out is by remove the plate on the back of the tranny that holds the driveshaft. Would it be safe for him to remove it and try to grab the gear? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
If his tranny is an automatic, it's a piece of cake to remove the tailshaft housing. If it's a manual, he'll have to pull the trans to remove the tailshaft housing. So if it's an auto trans, go for it. Not hard at all to do.
