4th gen rear

i have a 4th gen rear and it has ABS. Is there anything I need to do to make this axle work for my car. also its a posi, but i dont understand why the wheels are locked togeather, when i turn one the other turns the same directions. for a posi shouldnt they turn oposite directions.

The only thing with a fourth gen rear is that they are about 2 inches wider, so your factory wheels will stick out or you run fourth gen wheels ZR1, ZO6,Firehawk or equivalent and will have to run spacers on the front. Aside from that everything else bolts up.

Do a search for fourth gen rear, i dkonw know about the abs tho, i dont think you can get it to work on our cars.

And when i installed a fourth gen posi in my car my wheels did the same.

You don't have to do anything about the ABS. Just leave it unplugged and it won't affect the operation of anything. The ABS stuff is just two things. The sensor mounted in the top center of the axle housing and a reluctor ring sandwiched between the ring gear and the carrier. If it's a traction control equipped rear, you'll need to change to regular brake lines since the traction control setup uses separate lines for each wheel instead of one line with the tee fitting. Clutch style posi's, which were used up to 1997, will turn both axles the same direction. The only ones that rotate opposite directions when turned are your plain jane open(non-posi) rearends.

the later torsional posi(or aftermarket torsional) will also turn opposite when turned from the tire. They only turn both in the same direction when shocked from the pinion.

Yeah, what Shagwell said applies too. The best way to determine if a 98 or newer is a posi is to pull the cover and look since the torsen rear's axles rotate in opposite directions just like an open rear when you jack it up and turn one of the wheels.
