What converter for tbi with zz4 cam?
hey guys, this tax time i will be getting a zz4 cam for my 305 tbi car. I have 3.42 gears and the car will weigh 3000 with me in it. what would be a good stall converter to use for the cam and gears? who makes a good brand?
I want to still be able to drive the car on the street. any help would be great.

if you have a few bones to spend, they can build you a custom 9 inch torque converter. quite a few guys on here running edge TC's, and i plan to get one when i have my tranny rebuilt after xmas.
look to spend a little over 500 bones, and around a 3000 RPM stall.
can't wait to order one myself.

I had a ZZ4 engine with the stock (zz4) cam for a while with 3.73 and a 3000 stall converter. To be honest it is not as streetable as a stock or something in the 2000 range. You have to give it some good gas before it accelerates from a stop. It's funny to watch somebody new drive it... they drive it like an old lady because the stall doesnt lock until 3000.
The guy at midwest, where I got mine, said that with 3.73s I could get away with 3000. You have 3.42 which isnt far away but you might want to consider something like 2800. He said lower numerical gears => lower stall and vise versa, otherwise the converter has a lot more torque multiplying to do and you will always have to put your foot 1/2 way down just to leave stop sign.
Thas my 2cents
