O.D. gear ratio's, RPO codes questions
O.D. gear ratio's, RPO codes questions
I am attempting to figure out what o.d gear I have in my '91 1LE T5 camaro.
From what I have been able to search out, the RPO codes for T5 cars was MM5 (5spd provisions) and MK6 for the 5spd. The MK6 rpo denotes that the car has a .73 o.d., but being a 1LE isn't it possible the car may have a .80? How can I find this out? Do I have to pull the trans apat? - and when this is done, how can I find out what gear is actually in there - what teeth do I count? (for example: ring gear * pinion gear (as is the case for rear ends) - what is what inside the trans - I have no clue how to figure this out)
TIA
Andrew

As far as I know, there were only two OD's, a .63, which was the slug, and a .73, which was the performance version.

You could be right, but I was reading a few old threads where this topic came up and it seems that the .80O/D was available in 1LE car's
- As soon as I find the thread I will post.
How about how to go about figurig'n out what the gear ratio is - If I didn't know what was in the trans ie; the rpo code - what do I count/look at?

Some of the factory 1LE cars with a T5 actually did get the .80 fifth gear. TKOPerformance brought this up in a message thread several months ago. Send him a PM and he should be able to tell you how to identify a .80 fifth. He said he's came across them in a few T5's over the years. I found the thread discussing the 1LE .80 fifth. "T5 article in September '06 Car Craft".
