Torque Converter bad?

Awhile back I was driving down the highway doing about 65mph and downshifted from OD to D. I did that to slow down not thinking it would cause any problems. When I downshifted I heard a clanking sound from underneath me and ever since then when I downshift it acts as if i'm puting it in neutral (doesn't slow the car down anymore). The RPM's will drop down and when i step back on the gas, you can feel it take a second to catch back up. Any idea what I may have done?

Sounds like a tranny issue to me, not the torque converter!

If it was a torque converter failure you wouldnt be going anywhere with the car. Thats what takes the power from the engine and sends it to the tranny!

Im no tranny guru but i would say its time for a tranny rebuild.

Im sure someone can chime in and identify exactly what flew apart...

So the tranny still shifts fine and eveything, just when you manually downshift it slips?

Yeah, no problems shifting. Only notice the problem when i'm downshifting manually.
