9 Bolt 3.70 gears and New Posi on Ebay
9 Bolt 3.70 gears and New Posi on Ebay
Did any one see this auction? #120066966917 I just blew up my 10 bolt built rear and need something that can handle the power. I agree with the seller and think that the 9 bolt is a much stronger rear axle. I have a 9bolt with the crap 2.7? ratio and it held up awsome to a built 400, NOS and 1.76 ft times but I switched to a 10 bolt because i needed a better ratio and the carrier was crap for 3.70's. This looks to be just what I need 3.70's and a nice tight posi for a 9bolt. I would just have the seller send me the carrier and gears, he offers that and save on some shipping. I was just wondering what everyone thinks of the deal. I mean you can't purchase the new carrier for that ratio gear and the new ring and pinion with install kit cost as much as he wants for it all. Its like purchasing the gears and install kit and getting a super rare posi for free. Stronger then a 10 and less mony then a 12. Also has great feedback.
If you want to do what I think you do, it won't work. You can't simply put a 3-series carrier into a 2-series housing. the housings are different and nothing is interchangeable. sounds like you are in the same position I am in with a 2-series rear.
All 9 Bolt housings are identical, only the carrier is differentiated by gear ratio. Both a 2 series and 3 series carrier will fit in any 9 bolt housing. About three months ago I removed the two series carrier from my wifes 87 formula and installed a 3 series from an 88 GTA. I wanted the better gears. If you want different gears you may need to change carriers but the housings are all the same and will accept everything. I just wanted to know what people thought about the ebay auction, if it was a good deal?
then forgive me for repeating bad information.
as far as the auction, seems legit. if I were in a position to I'd probably pick it up. price is too steep for me, but that seems to be fairly reasonable with it being a 3-series rear.
