So I lost 3rd and 4th gear today

Well, my tranny finally screwed up today. I have all of 1st and 2nd but then when I go to shift into 3rd, nothing. 4th gear does nothing also. It was taking a long time to shift between 2-3rd but now it won't at all.

I have the throttle linkage cable hooked up, its not adjusted properly, but close. After my engine swap I did drive the car without the cable, but not far, just around the block.

My question is can tranny shops fix this or is it time for a brand new tranny?

tranny shops can fix this........with a rebuild. you burnt the 3/4 clutch pack. driving any distance without the throttle cable can do this.

thanks for the reply....So should I take the tranny out myself or trailer the car the the shop? My hedders are welded up solid with the y pipe, so they might have to un-bolt them right? I'm guessing a rebuild is about 500-600 dollars??? Plus the cost of a shift kit; 150 dollars? So we're looking at close to $800. This really sucks, engine is new and pulls good without a proper tune yet.

usually the cost for a good rebuild on a 700r4 is about $1000-$1200. it might be cheaper if you take it out yourself but a lot of shops don't like this since they have no way of knowing if you cleaned the cooler properly. call around and see if there are any shops in your area that will do it if you remove it.

not to mention most shops wont warrenty a trans they rebuild if you install it yourself due to them not knowing if the tv cable is adjusted right, trust me Ive had more than one shop tell me the same thing when my trans did the same thing.
