700r4 + transbrake ????

700r4 + transbrake ????

for lack of a better trans for us 60* v6 guys im stuck with either a t-5 or the 700.
behind my combo i dont think the t-5 will live,not to mention i just bought a 9.5 inch 4,000 stall converter.i have heard of a few ppl with transbrakes in the 700r4,but will they last?.and does anyone sell a transbrake kit or do i have to just go out and buy a complete trans

I have researched this because I was also intrested. The consensus was that it would not even be nearly worth it due to massive amounts of modifications that would be required. Not just to the valvebody but the clutches, and the hard components itself. The 700 just could not take it. It would be somewhat easier in a th350 and better in a 200. This is hearsay since I was researching this as well.

problem is i dont have a choice of any other automatic besides the 700r4,and swaping it out for a 5-speed will actually slow my car down.
ive been using a 2-step for a while now but it just wont give me the launch i need since i cant build full boost off the line.
the only other thihng i can think of to try would be a driveshaft brake,like the e-brakes they sell for the streetrods that are hooked upto the driveshaft,but i imagine even that would be really hard on the trans as well and i prolly still be able to power right threw that

It is ashame you did not build a 4.3 instead of the 3.1 so parts would be so easier for you.

You can still beef of a 700 very well. The two step thing will have to be a technique deal now. Preload the suspension and bam.

i may be doing a 4.3/2004r vortec swap with my neibor in his car 89 firebird,wether or not its gonna be turbocharged were unsure of yet

If you have the 9.5" 4,000rpm stall, why is it you think you need a transbrake? I have transmissions that are foot braking (using a similar torque converter) that run in the nines! and one of them is a very successful bracket racer. The "only" reason to use a transbrake is for consistency. Transbrakes are very hard on the driveline. If you are wanting to build this transmission yourself, I carry everything that is needed to build them right the first time.

Even with the t-brake you can't spin the motor up past the stall of the converter without some major issues. - A T350 takes the same amount of mods as a 700 to install a t-brake. As for trans life, a t-brake surely isn't gonna increase it any, but it's not a lot worse on the trans itself. It's much harder on other driveline.

the reason i was wondering about the transbrake is cause i cant get full boost on the line with a 2step.with a transbrake i could prolly leave the line under 18+ psi instead of 7-8 psi.though im not sure just how much boost i can get with the 2step and 4k converter yet,its going in this weekend and ill do some testing.
