I have a 91 rs with a factory LO3 and 700r4 trans is there any way to find out the gear ratio and tell if it's a factory posi or not without dissassembling the rear.

either pull the rear cover or get the stamping code off the axle tube and call chevy dealer parts counter and have them look it up real quick, but it sonly gonna be accurate if it hasnt been swapped/changed ever
pull the cover to be sure

TGO database has all the info.
91 RS with a 305 and automatic transmission came with 2.73 gears and an open diff. Now in 16 years, anything could have been swapped into it so the only way to know for sure is to pull the cover. Might be a good idea anyway. It probably has 16 year old oil in the diff.

to check for a posi, jack up the back, put it on jack stands, put the car in neutral, parking brake off.. if you spin one tire one way, the other should spin the same way.. IF it is a posi.. if its an open diff, the tires will rotate opposite ways..

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
No disassembly is required.
All you have to do is pull the cover and look.
All the "codes" and looking stuff up in tables will tell you, is WHAT THE CAR PROBABLY CAME WITH. None of that will tell you WHAT'S IN IT NOW.
Obviously you haven't changed the fluid lately. Eh?
While you're catching up on the long-overdue maintenance, make a point of identifying your parts.
