You need basic hand tools and a dial indicator at the least. Or you can buy a pinion depth gauge there a little expensive to just use one time. I would highly recommend having someone with experience walk you through it if its your first time setting gears. Hope you bought an install kit too, because the factory didn't use shims, they machined one piece spacers for each side, you can reuse them for one of the two sides if you need to, but the other side will almost always need to be shimmed, or maybe even both sides. You'll need a manual with the gear mesh pattern chart and specs for gear runout and backlash. If you know anyone with a lathe have them chuck your pinion in it and polish the shaft of it with crokus cloth, just a little so that the pinion bearing will just slide on and off without the use of a press, that way if shims need to be added they can be easier instead of buying another bearing when the press destroys it. Just a little trick an old timer taught me. But definatly get some help from someone with experience, it don't take much to ruin a set gears if there installed wrong.

you might want to start by forgetting everything you read in the above reply. you'd need a means of setting pinion depth, i use a depth mic and a piece of aluminum for a datum. you'd need to be able to swap bearings on the pinion, either a press and splitter or farm it out. using the old bearing to set pinion depth will save you from removing and reinstalling the new bearing untill you're ready to leave it in. use a brake hone to open up the old bearing a little so it slips on and off without the need for a press. you'd need the indicator and base for setting back lash. the specs ought to be etched on the new gears or included on a spec sheet with the new gear set. the carrier bearing total thickness can not be chanced so you need to know what it is, therefore you'd need a mic or caliper. you cah change the arrangement but not total thickness to get the back lash within spec. i wouldn't get all ate up on the contact pattern, it's pretty subjective and if everything is within spec it'll be good. you alo need a dial type in/lb torque wrench to set preload o nthe pinion and you'd need a "special tool" to hold the yoke, usually a flat piece of steel works or you can hack it up with a pipe wrench.

You can save on the bearing press work by freezing the gear or carrier and heating the bearing in an oven to 350deg. Make sure you freeze the one object over night, my bearings slipped right on, but make sure you have an appropriate sized tube to tap them down if for some reason they dont bottom out pushing them on.

35 inch lbs rotational drag with the seal removed and just light oil on the bearings should make for a whine and thud free rear end.
I'm doing my dana right now. a little wacky compared to a 10 bolt. I destroyed the old pinion bearing taking it off, so I had to spend $23 this morning for a bearing that I immediately honed the center of, and will discard
by tomorrow.
