Dana 44 rear in 85 Iroc

Hey guys i just picked up a 85 Iroc with a built 383 stroker pushing around 450-500hp, built 700r4 trans and with a Dana 44 rear. My question is, was the Dana 44 an option and if so for what years was it available? And how strong are they? I mean it takes some good abuse from that 383. And what gear ratio's did they come with?? Thanks

The Dana 44 wasn't a factory option, but it was available over the counter from the GM Performance Parts catalog.

I have one - in stock for, i would place it in the same catergory of strength as the BW 9 bolt... maybe a little better... One advantage is they are easy to upgrade and cheap to get good parts for - bigger axels, more solid diff, and better gears would beef these rears up quite nicely...

I have a few launches with my car on slicks with the stock dana 44, and it's held up fine so far.
