Putting in TCI 4th gear lockup harness.
Putting in TCI 4th gear lockup harness.
aight so im putting the 4th gear lockup harness on my 700r4. ive taken everything off of the engine/car that runs off of the computer. its fully mechanical. now, the question is. with me not using my computer and putting on the wiring harness do i need to use a lock-up or non lock-up converter. (is the lockup controlled by the computer?) i will be driving this car on the street, not a race car.
aight i just want to get it right.
but it says: " With the 376600 installed properly your ECM will no longer interface with the transmission. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLUG THE OEM WIRING HARNESS FROM YOUR COMPUTER INTO THE TRANSMISSION WITH THE KIT INSTALLED! IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE. the ECM will continue to control your torque cnoverter lockup."

It's in the wiring diagram in Figure 4. You can either run new wires, or you can modify the factory harness.
i thought it was in order to keep my 4th gear (overdrive). and one more question and ill stop being a pest. can i stop with step 5 or is it necessary to continue on to step 6. (getting more control over the tcc.)

You'll still have 4th without the kit. The shifting of the gears is controlled hydraulically by the valvebody of the transmission, with no input at all from the ECM. Without the torque converter clutch locking up while cruising in 4th gear though, the transmission will run hot and its lifespan will be limited.
Are you talking about the extra dash-mounted switch on the green wire? You don't need to do that if you don't want to. It would be easy enough to add later anyway.
