Lets play, whats my driveshaft
So I got an aluminum DS off Ebay hoping to fix my vibration problems. I was reading thru a bunch of old posts about aluminum DS's and nothing adds up to the shaft I have. So somebody tell me what I got, and please don't tell me what I got was screwed.
Three Rivers sticker 12560725, 3 inches diameter, 40 3/4 inches center to center on the u-joints. U-joints are the normal kind with the c clip on the inside and it has the damper on the trans yoke like the LS1 pictures. So what is it?

Can't say what you have; however, IIRC, the 1LE and LS1 shafts are 41 1/2 from U center to U center.

My buddy got an LS1 shaft for his car from a local junkyard, and it also had the Three Rivers sticker on it. I'm pretty sure that's who made the LS1 shafts. I can't remember the part# exactly off the top of my head, but yours looks familiar. I'll have to ask him what the part# is on his when I talk to him later today. In fact, now that I think about it, the reason yours is slightly shorter is probably because of the vibration damper on the slip yoke.
I just looked up an old post from XavierRahl with a pic. He was selling a LS1 shaft from a 2000 Camaro, and the part# on the sticker was 12564004 on it. It also said "three rivers" on it. I'm guessing there was more than just one part# for them.
I knew I had a pic of the two somewhere. This is a pic of a 1LE and a LS1 shaft next to each other. The LS1 shaft does look a bit shorter to me in the pic. It looks like the yoke ears on the ends of the shaft are not only beefier, but longer than the ears on the 1LE shaft, which would explain the actual tube being shorter.

Thanks Pat, that's exactly what mine looks like. From the part number, it must be really early in the run. No matter, it's still got to be better than the steel.

No problem. That friend of mine that has the LS1 shaft talked about possibly trading me for my 1LE shaft, and I'm pretty tempted to do it because the LS1 shaft looks a lot more beefier than my 1LE one. I'm just hesitant because the one I have right now is correct for my car. The vibration damper and the bigger 3" tube is tempting though. Either of them are a lot better than the steel one when it comes down to it.
