Axle/Gears: one wheel peel
HELP!

im bringing my trans am home monday and my buddy who i bought off of said when he bought it the trans didnt work at all and he took the pan off and found out the filter was upside down so he went to the parts store and got a new gasket and filter and installed it he said he drove it and it worked fine then overdrive went and then shorly after that he said drive went now the car has only 1st and 2nd should i check the fluid ? and i was wondering what the top speed i can drive in 2nd without messing up the tranny or the engine on a 40 mile trip b/c i dunno if my other buddy will be able to tow it or not ?

u got me thats what my buddy said when he pulled the pan off to me tonight over the phone lol...who ever it was had a screw loose because as far as i remember they only fit one way

Checking the fluid certainly wouldn't hurt anything, but then again it might not fix anything either.

you can check it....but i would say that your 3/4 clutch pack is gone. it is also impossible to install the filter on a 700r4 upside down,backwards or any other way except the correct way. if this "buddy" is the same one you are buying the tranny from.....really think twice about it

no hes cool and knows his $hit he bought the car and said it had no trans and he pulled the pan and said it was just thrown in there upside down so what is the top mph i can drive it in 2nd gear or is it not a good idea on a 40 mile trip

There's no way a transmission filter could just be thrown in the pan upside down. This is a 700R4 filter:

the way the filter is shaped, you can't get the pan on if the filter is upside down. the neck is to long.


40 mile trip in 2nd........not me.

well i wasnt there but i have a whole 89 formula parts car its just my one buddy wants to charge me a arm and a leg to tow it here on a tow dolly

I figure in 2nd, you can do @40. So if its not freeway you should be good

its in toledo and it would be a straight shot down telegraph but im afraid of burning out second and how high would my rpms be at 40 on a 305 and with a 700 r 4....lets say its goin from toledo to the 50s mcdonalds on telegraph
