concern over high stall converter and lockup

alright in installed a tci 10" converter 3,500-4,000 stall converter.
the converter is great.but im a lil worried about the amount of rpm drop when the converter locks up

what its doing is as soon as it shifts into od the converter is locking so im seeing 2,000=/- rpm drop as the converter locks up.

now for now ive disconected the connector on the side of the trans to prevent lockup all together.i know this sint specifically a good idea, but i havent been driving the car long distances or @ highway speeds for to long of periods. so the trans isnt getting that much of a chance to get to hot.but this is just temporay till i can figure out what to do

is that much of an rpm drop alright? or should i install a manual lockup switch so i can back off the throttle a bit when at cruising speed and lockup the converter so there isnt a huge drop

Re: concern over high stall converter and lockup

a converter locking will drop 200rpm not 2000. Is this a typo? yes somthing is wrong if this is true. mine is a 2800 stall and normal driving one would never even be able to tell untill floored from a dead stop. when it shifts from 3rd to 4th there will be a rpm drop and then the converter locks almost instantly droping another 200rpm. tell us more info.

Re: concern over high stall converter and lockup

my stall is really high and the converter is pretty lose so under any moderate throttle it will stall above 3,800 rpms, specially witht he turbo spooled up. i know thats why the rpm drop is so big

so basically when my motor makes thr 3-4 shift the motor is still turning 4,000 rpms, and once the lockup kicks in it drops it down to 2,000 ish
i know the converter is working properly im just worried about the lockup clutch not being able to handle it,as most converters that i see that stall that high are non lockups to begin with

Re: concern over high stall converter and lockup

that converter is sloppy and that would drive me nuts. Its as if your slipping the clutch in a standard all the time. I would talk to the converter company about this. Your converter stall speed should only be attained while transbraking or full throttle slams from a stop. It should not just float around the stall rpm with little effort on your part. I have read about really cheap converters acting this way. Your lockup will take it but the heat from the aggressive sliping is going to overheat that tranny sooner than later. I would look into a yank converter to solve this.
